assingment

Congratulations- you have been appointed as chief veterinarian at A Veterinary Practice situated in the thriving metropolis of Anytown.

The morning…..

You have a very busy morning clinic and being incredibly astute and well trained you diagnose the following pets with some rather serious problems.

- Paris’ Hilton, a 2.5-kg Chihuahua with spontaneous hypoadrenocorticism

- Jennifer’ Aniston, a 4-kg Domestic short-hair with inflammatory bowel disease and suppurative cholangiohepatitis

- Gwyneth’ Paltrow, a 10-kg Miniature Dachshund with nephrotic syndrome due to glomerulonephritis

- George’ Clooney, a 35-kg Boxer with pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism

- ‘Brad’ Pitt, a 25-kg Briard with hypercalcaemia due to multi-centric lymphoma

(matt: so..... jennifer aniston has IBD.... no wonder brad pitt dun wan her..... but he himself also got cancer??)

Choose ONE (1) of these patients. The owners of this patient are very nice and love their pet, but unfortunately do not speak English. You need to explain the diagnosis you have made and how it causes the clinical signs their pet may be displaying to their Year 8 son (of average intelligence) (matt: only average? not stupid....) who does speak English. Also briefly describe treatment implications for this condition.

The afternoon……..

You now have some time to organise discharging the cases you diagnosed yesterday:

- ‘Jude’ Law, a 4-kg three-year-old DSH with aortic thromboembolism due to otherwise asymptomatic unclassified cardiomyopathy

- Angelina’ Jolie, a 60-kg Great Dane with severe aspiration pneumonia secondary to megaoesophagus

- Matt’ Damon, a 3.5-kg twelve-year-old DLH with systemic hypertension due to chronic renal failure

- ‘Britney’ Spears, a 5.5-kg ten-year-old Oriental with nasal crytpococcosis

- Ben’ Affleck, a 10-kg Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with idiopathic immune-mediated haemolytic anaemia

(Matt: so now we know why britney spears had a meltdown.....)

Select ONE (1) of these cases and write a client discharge treatment and ongoing care summary to send home with their pet (as you are going to be too busy to discharge them all individually).

The evening……..

Now you have a little bit of time and need to tend to the patients that you have in hospital. You are very glad that it is Friday and you are going away for a surfing weekend (great beaches in Anytown), (matt: WHO FUCKING CARES??) so you need to make sure your colleagues have a good idea of how to manage your in-patients.

Select ONE (1) of the cases below and write a treatment plan for the next three days, whilst they are hospitalised. Be sure to cover all aspects of their care (eg. toileting, diet, medications, adjunctive therapy) and when these may be discontinued. Indicate what complications may occur and what should be done if they do.

- ‘Just’ Timberlake, a 7-kg Maine Coone Cat with hypertophic cardiomyopathy causing pulmonary oedema

- Nicole’ Kidman, a 40-kg six-year-old German Shepherd with atrial fibrillation due to mitral valve dysplasia and Grade II left-sided congestive heart failure

- ‘Russell’ Crowe, a 12-kg 4 month-old Labrador Retriever with a congenital extra-hepatic portosystemic shunt

- J-Lo’ Lopez, a 20-month-old 3.5 kg DSH with bilateral pyothorax (awaiting culture results)

- Hugh’ Grant, a 6-kg ten-year-old Yorkshire with diabetes ketoacidosis and pancreatitis

(MATT: now i know which celebs are my lecturers a fan of.... and damn!! i got some nice celebrity patients!!!!!)
